The Graduate: Tips to Enjoying Your Final Walk in High School

Updated: Dec 13, 2024

The moment has finally arrived, you can say good bye to all of your classmates and cross the graduation stage. What is most important is knowing you have accomplished a goal that you set a few years back. You decided you would attend all of your classes, work with your teachers, and to do your very best to graduate high school. Personally, I reflect back to five years ago when I graduated from Raymond High School. On graduation day, I remember my family waving my face fans and screaming GO ELIZABETH! It was the best feeling ever, and I want to share some advice that I feel will help you enjoy your graduation.

  1. Spend time with your classmates- For me I had a group of friends that I enjoyed spending quality time with. After graduation practice we went to Canes to eat. I suggest spending time with special people to create memories before the big day. Say a prayer and make a good decision with the community to entertain. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Bad company corrupts good charter.” So think about the people who matter to you and make sure they have a good influence on you.

  2. Celebrate in every way- Think of fun ways you can celebrate your graduation. Purchase face fans for the ceremony, create a scrape book, create a slide show of old picture, or even plan a graduation party. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Let your celebration be towards giving thanks to God for allowing you to reach this accomplishment.

  3. Appreciate Your Community- Take the time to make a list of people (guardian, teachers, or even friends) that supported you on this journey. One thing I did as a senior in high school was hand thank you cards to everyone that I felt shared in my special journey. Saying thank you to the ones you love the most will truly show them that you care.

  4. Appreciate Yourself- There is so much to do like hair, nails, buying your attire and so far. But take the time to tell yourself thank you. Self-gratitude is a mature way to say to yourself that you have come a far way. Take time to relax and journal memories that help you get to this special day.

  5. Lastly, take lots of pictures and record videos to cherish these special moments with your family and friends.
